Setbacks are an inevitable part of life. It could be that you lose your job, a personal failure, or a difficult choice. Life has a way of throwing you curveballs that leave you feeling stuck or completely defeated.  This is a gurantee. But setbacks do not have to get you or keep you stuck. If approached in certain ways, they could serve as stepping stones to your next big success.

• Change Your Mindset

Instead of thinking of setbacks as failures, see them as learning opportunities. Every problem has a lesson - your job is to access it. Ask yourself, "What is something I can learn from this that doesn't involve me beating myself up?" That simple change can allow you to find good in even the worst of circumstances.

• Adopt Flexibility

We tend to get invested in a certain plan or outcome, and then when that doesn't turn out, it is terrible. We get angry, shutdown, disengage. Here, you simply need to stop.  Acknowledge that your path might look different from what you had in mind—and that is okay. Adaptability assists you to pivot and find new alternatives when plans do not go as you expected.

• Build Resilience

Resilience in setbacks is not necessarily natural, however, you can develop it. Disappointment is actually the best time to begin developing your resilience muscle. Focus your mind on doing only one thing at a time, and recognize that in every obstacle you conquer, you're developing emotional strength.

You cannot avoid setbacks in life.  You can learn to move through them with elegance and grace. If you've experienced a setback lately, don't view it as the end of the road. Even if it seems to be, it isn't. Ask yourself how you can use this moment to grow or challenge the stories you have about the situation.

Even if the step you take in the forward direction is small, it is still a step. Do not forget, you don't necessarily need to do it all by yourself. The clarity you're looking for may very often come from others through means of guidance, connection, or friendship.
